Community Service Events for October

Trek for Trash

What— Participate in the annual Trek for Trash neighborhood cleanup.  With the support of Las Cruces volunteers we are looking to remove litter in local parks, schools, streets, and businesses.

When—October 17th (Saturday), 8am-12pm

Where—We’ll meet in front of Corbett Center to sing in and pick up our location assignment.

More Details-- Contact Vanessa at timbress@gmail.com ASAP to participate. Regulations of this project states that all participants sign up early, and sign a release form which means you have to sign up before you show up.

Trunk or Treat, sponsored by Las Cruces High School Interact Club

What—The newly formed Interact Club of LCHS is creating a safe way for kids to get their Halloween treats! Groups and clubs will enter a decorated car into the carnival. Rather than kids going from house to house they get to go from car to car, enjoy candy, play games and keep safe.

When—October 23 (Friday), 5pm- 7pm

Where—Las Cruces High School Parking Lot

More details—Committee meeting will be held October 14th (Wednesday) to discuss which car to enter, decorations, contributions and games. Anyone interested please attend!

Save the dates! Service projects for November (details coming soon)

November 7th (Saturday) Dona Anna Arts Council Renaissance Faire – We will be helping Big Brothers and Big Sisters with the Pepsi concessions.

November 14th (Saturday) Habitat for Humanity build date—Joint effort with NMSU Habitat for Humanity club.

Semester-long Projects

NMSU has declared 2009 the year of Sustainability. Help our campus maintain its status as a eco-aware community by helping out at our recycling center. You can help Monday through Friday from 12:30- 2:00 PM. Commit at least one hour to helping out at the center. The center is located on Locust St just south of Wells St (about one block back from the Athletics Center).

Call for Service Committee Liaisons!

NMSU Rotaract would love to have more community service projects; however it’s a lot of work for one person to be the contact for all of our projects. If you have any service or non-profit that is close to your heart please consider being the official Rotaract liaison. As the liaison you will be the contact person with the non-profit, schedule dates for service, assist in recruiting students to attend the events, and report back to the club with progress. Contact Vanessa at timbres@gmail.com for more information.
