International Projects
- The NMSU Rotaract Club is intimatly connected with the Centro Santa Catalina sewing co-op in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico. The cooperative is a faith based comunity founded in 1996 for the spiritual, educational and economic empowerment of women who are economically poor. All products are hand-made by the women of the cooperative and Rotaract helps to sell these products in the Las Cruces area. One hundred percent of the proceeds goes back to the Centro Santa Catalina Co-op.
- We have also partnered with the Rotary Club of Begusurai India for our India Project. We will be fundraising for corrective surgeries for children affected by Polio in the Begusarai District of Bihar, India. Also, part of those funds go toward Polio vaccines! Our project goal is to raise enough money for 100 corrective surgeries!
This state is the most impoverished in India with as much as 41 percent of people living below the poverty line. In this state, 13 percent of the people live on only 25 cents a day and about 42 percent of children are estimated to be suffering from malnutrition! As you can can probably tell, the majority of people cannot afford even basic health care- let alone surgery. We as a club find it is our duty to help these children. There were 604 polio cases in 2009 alone!
